Of Irish parentage, Mary Wilson Alloway (1847-1919) spent her entire life in Montreal, and died in California while on holiday. Her husband, Clement John Alloway (1847-1914), was a veterinarian who became an insurance agent after retirement. Her talents included watercolour and china painting. Interest in local history underlies both her descriptive book, FAMOUS FIRESIDES OF FRENCH CANADA (1899), and her historical romance, CROSSED SWORDS (1912).
Several of Alloway's children settled in New Brighton, Minnesota.
